Drym
House

A total redesign of a period property to bring some warmth, character and grandeur, sympathetic to the heritage of the house. Warren French added bespoke panelling and ceiling details, thoughtful lighting, brass fixtures and a coastal colour palette throughout in order to create a stylish and joyous home.
Drym House

A stunning, grand residence with a coastal twist

Asked by our clients to re-create a period-style interior design with a coastal twist, Warren French combined the elegance and charm of traditional decor with the relaxed and warm feel of coastal design. What was a sterile, white and rather soulless house, is now a stunning, grand residence, providing our clients a wonderful home for years to come. We designed and installed bespoke, stately panelling and coving, as well as two ceiling roses for the formal living room which created a level of sophistication and grandeur. The snug and bedrooms feature 3/4 height panelling with contrasting wall colours, giving each room a distinct character. The snug ceiling has been dramatically painted in a deep blue, making it a feature in itself, lending the modern extension some of the grandeur from the original residence. In Drym House we used a mixture of pale tones like sandy beiges, nutty neutrals and off-whites alongside coastal accent blues like seafoam and grey-greens to complement existing furniture. Contemporary jewel blues and teal feature in soft furnishings and artwork, against a backdrop of subtle, heritage-coloured panelling. We chose classic period-style furniture pieces such as ornate wooden tables, upholstered armchairs and luxe, velvet sofas decorated with patterned fabric cushions complementing the window treatments. We picked natural materials such as jute, rattan and wicker with the occasional pops of glass and brass - changing subtle features such as switches and doorknobs to create a much more ornamented feel throughout. We designed a thoughtful lighting plan, adding sophisticated mood lighting with glass/brass pendant lights and side lamps with patterned shades against the panelled back-drops. We accessorised with artwork featuring coastal plants, animals, boats and scenery; shell details, palm plants reminiscent of the period, colour-blocked books on shelves, coral ornaments, rattan hampers and baskets, jute rugs and weathered metal lanterns to create a stylish coastal home.
